Roger Perez
Black Belt under Carlos Machado · 20-year U.S. Air Force veteran
Roger started grappling in middle school. The art got under his skin early. He carried it with him for the next two decades, training wherever he was stationed during a 20-year career in the U.S. Air Force. Dojos in towns most people cannot find on a map. Mats where nobody spoke the same first language as he did. Same Jiu-Jitsu, same standards.
When Roger settled in Wichita Falls, he looked for an academy that matched the standard he wanted to train at. He could not find one. So he opened one. That was 2015. The doors at 2005 Kemp Boulevard have been open ever since.
Later, Roger met Carlos Machado at a seminar and joined the Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu Association. He went on to earn his Black Belt under Carlos and now helps guide the global CMJJ Association while teaching every week in our room. Carlos Machado is an 8th-degree coral belt and the godfather of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Texas, headquartered in Dallas for over 30 years.
What Roger teaches is what was taught to him. Discipline first. Technique second. Character before color of belt. No gimmicks, no fast belts, no trophies for showing up. Same standards he held himself to, applied honestly, every class.

Train smart, stay humble.
The four lines below are the academy in plain language. Every class is held to them.
Come as you are
Every body type, every age inside the cohort, every starting point. Most of our students started with zero experience. The room scales to you.
You belong here
New students get welcomed in by old students. The community is part of the curriculum. Walk in nervous and within a month somebody is checking on you after class.
Train smart
Technique decides outcomes, not size or strength. Live rolling is introduced progressively, sparring is never assumed. Injuries are rare because we coach the mechanics.
Stay humble
Belts and stripes are earned over years, not weeks. The students who travel the furthest are usually the quietest about it. That is the room.
