Before You Walk In

What to bring on day one.

  • Arrive ten minutes early

Gives us time to sign you in, show you around, and walk you onto the mat without rushing.

  • Wear athletic clothes

Shorts or sweatpants and a t-shirt. Class is barefoot on the mat. No uniform needed for the free week.

  • Bring a water bottle

Classes are 30 to 60 minutes. Stay hydrated, especially in your first few sessions.

  • No experience required

Every student starts somewhere. Instructors meet you at your current level.

  • Long hair tied back, nails trimmed

Standard for Jiu-Jitsu so grips and movement do not catch on anything.

  • Parents welcome to watch

Dedicated viewing area for parents on every class.

Practical Questions

Schedule and attendance questions.

How often should a beginner come per week?

Two classes per week is the standard for steady progress. Three is the right rhythm for students who want to advance faster, prepare for competition, or build deeper conditioning. One class a week keeps you in the routine but slows technical progress.

Can I drop in or do I need to register?

Active members drop into any eligible class without advance registration. New students should book the free first lesson first so we can put you in the right class at the right time.

What if I miss a class?

Make it up at any equivalent class that same week. The weekday schedule is built to allow it: Gi runs Monday and Wednesday, No-Gi runs Tuesday and Thursday, mixed Jiu-Jitsu plus open mat on Friday.

Do you close for holidays?

The academy closes on major federal holidays. Schedule changes are posted to the academy Facebook page at least 48 hours in advance. When in doubt, call (940) 202-0905.

When are belt promotions?

Belt promotions are nominated by the instructor when a student demonstrates the technique, time on the mat, and character the rank requires. There is no fixed promotion calendar. Stripes mark progress between belts.

Can I watch a class before signing up?

Yes. Walk in during class hours, tell the front desk you would like to observe, and we will show you to the viewing area. No appointment needed.
